How Many Hours Should a Wedding Reception Be?

The band wants a finish time and the caterer wants a service window. How many hours is a lunch reception?

Three and a half hours. The morning scenario introduces the couple at 12:00 PM and sends them off at 3:30 PM, and it gets there by trimming the party rather than the meal: one song on the floor at 2:00 PM instead of a dance bracket, photography wrapping at 2:30 PM.

A reception at a second venue lands between the two, at four hours fifty. That day puts the first dance at 6:05 PM, five minutes after the entrance, because guests have already been travelling since eleven and the room needs a reason to be standing.
