A wedding planner in Australia can cost anywhere from $75 an hour to $6,000 for the full job, and the honest answer to how much a planner costs here is that no Australian survey publishes one. Three tiers are priced and no others. If a planner quotes you for partial planning, month-of coordination, or a fee set as a percentage of your budget, there is no Australian published figure to check it against. Why is there no average wedding planner cost in Australia?
Because the survey that prices everything else does not price planners. Easy Weddings' 2026 industry report publishes an average for venues, catering, photography, videography, flowers, music, celebrants, cakes, hire, decor, dresses, formal wear, invitations, cars, hair and makeup, photo booths and bomboniere. It carries no planner or day-of coordinator price page at all.2 It publishes no planner lead time4, and planners are missing from the list of what proportion of couples book each supplier category.3
The same report ranks Wedding Planner third in its own buying cycle.5 So the category is important enough to sit near the top of what couples book, and still nobody surveys what it costs.
The closest priced comparison in the report is a wedding stylist at $2,809.2 A stylist decides how the room looks. A coordinator runs the day. Treat the stylist figure as a neighbouring benchmark, not as a planner rate.

The average Australian wedding costs $38,252.18 Against that, a $6,000 full-service fee is about 16 percent of the whole wedding and a $2,000 day-of fee is about 5 percent, which is our arithmetic rather than a published share. Easy Weddings puts the full-service fee at almost 17 percent, but it benchmarks against the older $35,315 national average rather than this year's.1

When do couples book a wedding planner?
Third, straight after the venue and the caterer, and ahead of the celebrant and the photographer.5 That order matters for price, because the planner is hired before most of the supplier team exists and then inherits the job of coordinating everyone booked afterwards. You are not buying help with a finished list. You are buying the person who will build it.
The report gives no month figure for planners, only a position, so any "book nine months out" advice for a planner is an inference rather than a published lead time.4

Why availability sets the price more than the hourly rate
Australian weddings pile onto the same dates. Saturday takes 53 percent of 2026 weddings and Friday another 20 percent.12 October alone takes 17 percent of the year against December's 3 percent, with spring and autumn holding roughly two-thirds of the calendar between them.13

What are you actually paying a coordinator for?
The run sheet, mostly. Hunter Events NSW, an Australian wedding planner answering a reader question on Easy Weddings, describes it as the professional's deliverable: "Most venues and wedding planners will create a detailed run sheet for you, so if you start to feel overwhelmed, it's always best to work closely with a professional to guide you through it."17
The labour behind that is real. Venues, the supplier whose job is closest to running the day, report 41 hours of work per wedding and say they can service one wedding in a day.16 That figure is total business hours including admin and travel, not hours on site, but it is the best sourced measure of how heavy day-of coordination is.
It is also being done by very small businesses. Among Australian wedding suppliers, 69 percent are sole traders14 and 42 percent use a customer relationship management system.15 Most of the people you are paying are running the coordination themselves, with whatever tools they have chosen.
